Decatur's Own Terra McVoy Launches Pure

My girls and I are frequent shoppers at Decatur's independent book store, Little Shop of Stories. There are many reasons for this...It is predominately a children's bookstore, I have children. It is close, it is independent & we like to support that. But a big reason are the people that work there & one of our favorite people is Terra McVoy.

Well now, Miss Terra has written her own book! And I hear it is pretty darn good! I invite you all out tonight, April 17, at 7:30 to Little Shop to celebrate the launch of "Pure." If you haven't already purchased your copy, this would be a great time to do it & if you haven't been lucky enough to meet Terra, this would be your opportunity. See you there!

Trash Amnesty!

I have an old bungalow & to say it needs a little love is an understatement. But, I have been extra motivated to get a little work done lately because of the city of Decatur's Trash Amnesty Days.

Every spring, Public Works makes their way through Decatur street by street, Saturday by Saturday & picks up items that normally you would have to pay extra to have picked up or put in the pay as you throw bags. I make the most of it! Today I am pulling up a plywood floor in my hallway (underneath I discovered beautiful hardwood floors, yipee!) & by the end of the week I will be removing the plaster in my bathroom. I have cleared my schedule on Friday afternoon to pull it all out to the street.

If you want to know which Saturday they will coming by your house, click here: http://http//www.decaturga.com/cgs_citysvcs_sfm_cleanupdays.aspx

Jazz Nights in Oakhurst!

Recently, someone was asking me about my community of Oakhurst & basically how I felt about it. “Did I feel safe there? Were there a lot of kids? Did I get out & walk much?” I answered all of her questions and also told her that my feelings were very difficult to get through in an email. But, I invited her to Jazz Nights down in front of the old Scottish Rite hospital. I told her that is the best way to get a glimpse of what we were all about.

Last night was the 1st of 4 Jazz Nights in April.
http://www.oakhurstjazznights.com/index.html For those of you who are not aware, Jazz Night takes place Thursday evenings in April & September. Not a jazz fan? That’s ok! I promise you will still have fun. It is great to get out in the neighborhood, see many people you know, bring a blanket, picnic & bottle of wine. If you have kids, bring them! There is room to run…but we always try & stay on the outer edges so as not to disturb those trying to enjoy to tunes. So, here is my personal invite! C’mon over to Oakhurst! I promise you will have fun!
